A third of the EU acquis planned for 2020 has already been translated

The meeting of the Commission for the preparation of Montenegrin version of the EU acquis stated that more than one third of the EU acquis planned for this year has already been translated.

On the meeting of the Commission, chaired by Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević, the plan for the translation of the EU acquis for 2020 was presented, as well as the activities that have been realized on translation and professional editing, until now.

European Integration Office in cooperation with the coordinators for professional editing, from the ministries, has prepared the first plan for translation of the EU acquis in 2020, which nominated 237 European acts from the competences of 15 ministries, or a total of 10,050 standard pages of the EU acquis for translating.

Until today, as it was reported, the Office has prepared a translation of 64 acts or 3,427 pages. So far, 32 acts or 1,250 pages have been sent to the professional editing board until, while the first phase of professional editing of 12 acts or 186 pages was completed.

The Chief Negotiator reminded on Montenegro’s obligation to translate the entire EU acquis into the Montenegrin language by the date of accession.

“Meeting the deadlines is a basic precondition for the continuation of the professional editorial process and the possibility of planning all further activities. In that sense, it is very important that through practical work and experience, we identify the weaknesses in the expert editorial system, and address actively in timely manner, as well to motivate all available resources that can contribute to this extensive work. ” Drljević pointed out.
