Together we can achieve the goals in Chapter 23

“We will try to improve the evaluations from this year’s European Commission Report, we expect that the next EC Non-Paper will identify the progress in the field of justice,” said the head of the working group for that chapter, Bojan Bozovic.

A plenary session of the Working Group for Chapter 23 was held today, and it was occasion to discuss activities in the Dynamic Plan and current activities from the negotiation process.

The head of the Working Group said that the Report detected a lack of progress in the field of justice, while some progress had been made in the area of fundamental rights, especially in terms of fulfilling the obligations set out in international instruments and human rights regulations.

He expressed satisfaction that, unlike in previous years, when no progress was recorded, the EC stated in this year’s report that a certain level of readiness had been realized in the area of freedom of expression.

Bozovic reminded that, in the part of preventing corruption and promoting integrity in relation to the highest levels of executive power and police, the Government in September adopted Guidelines for firming ethics and integrity of high executive officials as an intermediate step to adopting a code of ethics for high executive officials.

He emphasized that the Working Group in the Ministry of Justice, Human and Minority Rights, with the help of foreign and domestic experts, is working on defining the Draft Law on the Origin of Property, which could be in the Assembly by the end of 2021. against organized crime and corruption and to be one of the most significant steps in the overall reforms concerning the rule of law.

The members of the Working Group studied the cross-section of implemented activities and agreed on the dynamics and monitoring of the implementation of activities from the Dynamic Plan envisaged for the upcoming period.
