Slovenia and France remain strong partners for Montenegro in the new phase of the negotiation process with the EU

During the working visit to Brussels, the chief negotiator of Montenegro with the European Union, Predrag Zenović, met with the permanent representative of the Mission of Slovenia to the EU, Iztok Jarca, and with the permanent representative of France to the EU, Filip Legliz-Kosta.

Ambassadors Jarc and Legliz-Kosta congratulated the chief negotiator for the progress that Montenegro has achieved on the road to the EU, and emphasized that there are widespread positive impressions in Brussels regarding the reform activities that Montenegro has achieved in the field of the rule of law in a very short period of time. , in order to obtain a positive IBAR.

The ambassadors emphasized that the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference will be the crown of a huge job completed by the Montenegrin administration and will give a boost to further activities on the plan of temporarily closing the remaining negotiation chapters. They also encouraged Montenegro to continue with further reform activities, and said that Montenegro can count on the continued support of Slovenia and France in the new phase of the negotiation process.

Chief negotiator Zenović emphasized in the conversation with the ambassadors that in the previous period, Montenegro achieved significant results in the field of rule of law, as the main precondition for unlocking the new phase of the negotiation process, which implies the temporary closure of negotiation chapters.

He also thanked the strong support of Slovenia and France, both at the political and expert-technical level, and emphasized that receiving a positive IBAR at the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels will crown the success of the Montenegrin administration, renew enthusiasm and confirm the belief that Montenegro can really be a successful European story in the Western Balkans.

The interlocutors agreed that after moving to a new phase of negotiations, Montenegro should make additional efforts to fulfill the final benchmarks in the remaining chapters, and that this step forward on the European path will give momentum to other countries in the region in their approach to the EU.
