The enlargement is in the interest of both Montenegro and the EU

The process of joining the EU is in the interest of the state and its development, as can be seen from the example of Estonia which joined the European family in 2004, said the Ambassador of that country, Kirsti Karelson at the meeting with the Chief Negotiator, Aleksandar Drljevic.

She welcomed Montenegro’s achievements in negotiations with the EU, saying that it is a country that is progressing faster than others in the region.

Ambassador Karelson conveyed Estonia’s strong support to the reform processes that will provide Montenegro with a place in the EU, stressing that Montenegro already shares values with developed countries in NATO.

The Chief Negotiator, Aleksandar Drljevic, presented the results, pointing out that Montenegro will continue to work diligently to implement the reforms in the forthcoming period, in order to open the last unopened negotiation chapter in 2019 and be able to temporarily close some of them.

He pointed out that special efforts were focused on achieving measurable results in chapters 23 and 24, which was recognized in the recently published working paper of the European Commission, and that this will be in the focus of the Government’s work in the next year, so that Montenegro would soon be able to gets final benchmarks from this field.

He informed the Ambassador with the results of the recent public opinion survey and expressed satisfaction with the high level of support, especially of young people, for joining the EU.

Drljevic stressed that enlargement is in the interest of both Montenegro and the EU. As he pointed out, Montenegro will continue to fulfill its obligations with the aim of achieving European quality of life, and we expect the EU to continue with unceasing support and partnership.
