Montenegro’s Prime Minister hosts Italy’s Foreign Minister: Region’s integration is precondition for stability and prosperity

Podgorica, Montenegro (28 July 2014) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted on Monday Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini.

The Prime Minister noted that Minister Mogherini’s visit is a confirmation of Italy’s support for Montenegro’s integration endeavours and an impulse to further development of excellent relations between the two states. He added that in addition to very good political dialogue, Montenegro and Italy share excellent cooperation in all areas, most notably the area of economy.

“Our previous positive experience offers a strong impulse to continue and extend investment cooperation between Montenegro and Italy,” Prime Minister Đukanović has said.

Ms Mogherini underlined she was very pleased to be in her first official visit to Montenegro and conveyed to Mr Đukanović the warm regards from his Italian counterpart Mr Matteo Renzi.

Minister Mogherini agreed with Prime Minister Đukanović that their two countries share excellent cooperation, and she underlined Italy’s readiness to continue providing support to Montenegro in the EU and NATO integration processes.

“Italy understands and supports the Western Balkans integration,” Minister Mogherini has underlined, voicing at the same time her belief in the need for a more dynamic NATO integration process.

The two officials remarked that the region’s integration is the guarantee for stability and prosperity.

The two officials exchanged opinions on further cooperation between Montenegro and Italy in various areas of shared interest.

Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and her Montenegrin counterpart Igor Lukšić signed earlier today in Podgorica the Protocol between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the Republic of Italy on the implementation of the Agreement between Montenegro and the European Community on the readmission of persons without residence permits.
