The sixth meeting of theSub-Committee on Justice, Freedom, and Security between the European Commission and Montenegro took place on 9 and 10 March 2016 in Podgorica. The meeting was launched by State Secretary for European Integration and Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Andrija Pejović and Head of Unit for Montenegro at DG Enlargement Dirk Lange.
The meeting discussed justice reform, judicial cooperation in criminal and civil matters, as well as the state of play in the area of fundamental rights. The participants also spoke about the fight against corruption and terrorism and activities aimed at preventing money laundering. Other topics discussed were police cooperation, fight against organised crime, fight against trafficking in human beings, illicit drugs suppression, as well as progress in the area of migration and asylum, border management, and visa policy.
In all of the areas discussed an emphasis was put on the harmonisation of national legislation and institutional framework with EU standards.
Representatives of Montenegrin institutions presented the progress that has been achieved in this area since the previous meeting which took place in February 2015.
