Concrete results in rule of law encouragement for continuation of Montenegro’s EU accession process

Concrete results in implementing electoral legislation and progress made in the fight against organised crime and corruption represent an encouragement for boosting Montenegro’s European accession process, the EU officials emphasised following the meeting with Montenegro’s Minister of the Interior Raško Konjević.

During his visit to Brussels, Minister Konjević met with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Johannes Hahn and Director-General of the Council of the EU in charge of Foreign Affairs Council support, Enlargement, Humanitarian aid and Civil protection Leonardo Chiavo.

The officials noted Montenegro’s progress in implementing reforms within the electoral legislation, voicing belief that reforms will be implemented on time and also contribute to regaining confidence of the society in the electoral process.

Commissioner Hahn stressed that he fully supports Montenegro’s efforts in pursuing Euro-Atlantic agenda, adding that Montenegro’s membership in NATO will strengthen the stability in the region.

The meeting also discussed the EU’s current position towards the migration crisis, as well as Montenegro’s preventive activities in dealing with this particular issue.
