Gorčević with Zakaria: EBRD’s support in the implementation of development projects

The Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević, today met the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) office in Montenegro, Remon Zakaria.

The interlocutors expressed their satisfaction with the cooperation and support of the EBRD in a large number of areas so far, with the aim of further economic development of Montenegro and acceleration of integration into the EU.

Minister Gorčević said that the EBRD’s support, which is reflected in the realization of significant development projects, contributes to the fulfillment of the goals of the Berlin Process and the progress of Montenegro and the countries of the region on the way to the EU.

“The Government of Montenegro is determined to, with the support of the EU and international partners, work to create a competitive economy based on the principles of sustainable development, improve infrastructure, strengthen small and medium-sized businesses, and develop agricultural production. I am firmly convinced that, with the support of funds that will be allocated within the framework of the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans and with the new infrastructure projects of the Western Balkans Investment Framework, Montenegro can successfully implement all reforms and achieve significant economic and overall progress”, said Minister Gorčević.

The Minister pointed out that the construction of the section of the Bar-Boljari highway, the Mateševo-Andrijevica section, where the EBRD is a reliable partner, is a priority of the Government.

Head of the EBRD Office Zakaria said that they will continue to support Montenegro and other countries of the region in areas that are important for economic progress, primarily in the implementation of capital infrastructure projects of regional importance, and strengthening the competitiveness of the private sector and the transition to green energy.

“The EBRD has so far invested EUR 801 million through 85 projects in Montenegro. We will continue to work with you and support you so that you can use the excellent potential that your country possesses in several areas, accelerate economic development, and fulfill all the conditions for EU membership,” said Zakaria.

He emphasized the need to improve coordination and cooperation with other ministries with the aim of maximum use of available EU funds.
