The Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević, welcomed today the newly appointed Ambassador of Portugal, José Rui Veles Caros.
Gorčević informed the interlocutor about current events from the negotiation process and Montenegro’s plans to temporarily close all negotiation chapters until 2026, in order to become a full member of the EU in 2028.
“Montenegro is facing a period of very demanding and responsible work on the implementation of comprehensive and complex reforms. All institutions are fully committed to this goal in order to reach European standards in the shortest period of time and improve the quality of life of our citizens,” said the minister.
She pointed out that all the technical, expert and financial assistance of the EU and member states on the way to full membership means a lot to the Government and, in this context, she introduced the ambassadors to the main challenges and needs of the administration and the negotiation structure with the aim of successfully finalizing the accession process.
Ambassador Caros welcomed the results achieved by Montenegro on its European path, stressing that the work on European integration does not end on the day of accession, because then new obligations and tasks follow. He said that Portugal is in favor of expanding the EU and that, in this sense, our country can count on their full support in implementing reforms and joining the Union.
