Montenegro expects continuation of German support

Montenegro expects Germany’s further support to the EU accession process, especially in the areas where additional efforts are needed, it was heard at a meeting between Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević and German Ambassador in Podgorica Robert Heinrich Weber.

Drljević stressed that the priority of the Montenegrin administration is to meet the commitments under chapters 23 and 24.

“We expect to step into a new phase of negotiations and to receive closing benchmarks for these two chapters. To this end, we are committed to producing results in the field, especially in the area of the fight against organized crime and corruption,” Drljević stated.

He noted that he expects that Germany will recognize Montenegro’s efforts in that direction.

Drljević also informed the German Ambassador about Montenegro’s readiness to open Chapter 27 by the end of the year, adding that he hopes that Germany, as well as other EU member states will recognize and reward the results that have been achieved.

Ambassador Weber said that Montenegro can count on Germany’s further support at the expert level, recalling good cooperation through the TAIEX instrument in the past.

“Montenegro is recognized as the frontrunner of European integration in the Western Balkans and a country that successfully implements reforms,” Weber said.
