Reynders: Progress in fight against discrimination

Montenegro has made progress in fight against discrimination, in particular regarding LGBT persons, said Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.

In a press conference following the meeting with his Montenegrin counterpart Igor Luksic, he said that he was satisfied with cooperation between Belgium and Montenegro.

Reynders remarked that he was in particular pleased with the fact that Montenegro had the same attitude regarding certain international issued, and in particular regarding hard situation in Ukraine and fight against terrorism.

He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in integration.

Reynders said that Belgium supports Montenegro’s efforts on the path towards NATO and the EU, as well as that the efforts of every country should be assessed individually.

He emphasized the importance of establishing of legislative framework which was in progress, adding that they would follow everything that was happening in the field of its implementation.

“The progress has been made regarding legislative framework for fight against corruption and different forms of discrimination, as well as judiciary reform”, said he, adding that now it was time for implementation of those reforms in practice.

Luskic thanked to the Belgian colleague for strong support of that country to Montenegrin ambitions to become NATO and EU member.
He said that Montenegro “will show full readiness to deal with all the challenges on the path of European integration”.

Luksic also emphasized importance of cooperation of the Western Balkans countries and the Benelux countries, in particular in the fields such as fight against corruption and organized crime and further decreasing of business barriers.
