The EU Macro-Regional Strategies Week in Brussels, 17-21 February 2020

Countries participating in the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR) will work further on defining macro-regional priorities that are relevant for this macro-region, in order to incorporate those priorities in the main programming documents for the EU financing in the period 2021-2027 – this was highlighted in Brussels this week.

The beginning of the EU Macro-Regional Strategies Week (MRSs week) was marked by the regular EUSAIR Governing Board meeting.

Within the EU MRSs week and Croatian Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), the first meeting of Trio Presidencies of all macro-regional strategies was held as well as macro-regional strategies High Level Group meeting.

During the meeting of Trio Presidencies of MRSs, participants discussed about the on-going activities that are taken in order to further strengthen and align horizontal issues which are of importance for all macro-regional strategies.

Presidency countries of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region, EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region presented their chairmanship programmes and priorities at the meeting of the macro-regional strategies High Level Group.

On behalf of Montenegro, the meetings were attended by Jelena Burzan, Director General for the EU in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the European Integration Office.
Montenegro participates in implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region, which was successfully chaired by Montenegro from June 2018 to June 2019.

Participation in implementation of the EU macro-regional strategies is of great importance for the country taking into account that this process gives an impetus for the EU integration process, contributes to alignment of national policies with the EU policies in the fields of Blue Growth, Connectivity, Environment and Sustainable Tourism, and strengthens regional cooperation and promotes socio-economic growth in the region.
