Since the beginning of the negotiation process with EU, Montenegro has significantly changed its legislative and institutional framework in the area of transport, environment, energy and regional development and has harmonized it with the European, and the application of the legal framework is the most demanding stage, given the complexity of the chapters in administrative and financial terms, was the conclusion of the 12th meeting of the Subcommittee on Transport, Environment, Energy and Regional Development between Montenegro and the European Commission.
Deputy Chief Negotiator Marko Mrdak said that Montenegro achieved significant results through all the chapters covered by the Subcommitte, as evidenced by the evaluations from this year’s EC Report.
“Montenegro is strongly committed to meeting its obligations in the field of transport policy and trans-European networks, whose implementation has practical and economic significance for its citizens, as it implies the creation of preconditions for quality infrastructure. When it comes to the energy sector, we are aware of the benefits that we gain by aligning with European standards, which is why, despite challenging tasks and challenges, we will continue on this road, “Mrdak said.
Co-Chairman of the Subcommittee in front of Montenegro, Ivana Vojinović pointed out the importance of the topics that this Subcommittee includes and their impact on the overall development of Montenegrin society and the improvement of the quality of life of all citizens, as well as the negotiation process, especially considering the fact that the realization of obligations in these areas contributes to the implementation of 24 out of 87 final benchmarks. She recalled that from June 2012, when Montenegro started the negotiation process with the EU, the normative, strategic and institutional framework in the area of transport, environment, energy and regional development was significantly changed and harmonized with European standards, and that activities on construction of infrastructure in the field of transport, energy and environment were were carried out with very prominent dynamics .
Deputy Head of the Unit for Montenegro in the Directorate General for Enlargement, Barbara Hesus-Himeno, stressed that Montenegro has done a great job in the areas that are the subject of this Subcommittee.
“This Subcommittee is significant for the European path of Montenegro, but above all for Montenegrin citizens,” she said.
Regarding Chapter 27. Environment and Climate Change, she stressed that the focus in the coming period should be on the implementation of obligations in the field of air quality, climate change and nature protection that meet the criteria for closing this chapter. “The Western Balkans should work on Green Agenda, and your country is on the right track. At the end of May, Montenegro has met the full need for renewable energy, “said Hesus-Himeno.
