Montenegro’s chief negotiator with the European Union, Predrag Zenović, met in Brussels with Member of the European Parliament, Davor Ivo Štir.
The discussion focused on the key challenges Montenegro faces on its European path, with particular emphasis on the importance of regional cooperation and the strategic priority of the European agenda. “It is not in Montenegro’s interest to be part of anyone’s sphere of influence; its future belongs solely to the European Union,” Štir emphasized, adding that Montenegro’s path to the EU must remain irreversible and be a key priority for all political actors.
Zenović, on the other hand, highlighted the significance of strong partner support on the European path, especially in the context of Montenegro’s and Croatia’s shared foreign policy direction. “This cooperation is crucial for accelerating reform processes and strengthening regional stability,” Zenović noted.
The shared geopolitical context of the two countries further underscores the significance of the European perspective for the Western Balkans. The interlocutors agreed that EU integration is not just an internal issue for each country, but a broader strategic goal that contributes to the long-term security and prosperity of the entire region.
Montenegro remains firmly committed to reforms, strengthening cooperation with European partners, and accelerating the negotiation process, with a clear message that its European path has no alternative.
