“The negotiating structure and decision makers recognize the significance of the information society and media, and I believe that the importance of this area will grow in the upcoming period, not only because of adequate preparation for Montenegro’s membership in the European Union, but also the importance of digital transformation in all segments of our society. “, said the head of the Working Group for Chapter 10 – Information Society and Media Ružica Mišković from the Ministry of Public Administration, Digital Society and Media.
The constitutive session of the Working Group for Chapter 10 – Information Society and Media was held today.
The head of the working group, Ružica Mišković, presented the achieved results, as well as to the two closing benchmarks on which Montenegro’s further progress in that chapter depends. She emphasized that good organization, proactive approach and coordination of all involved actors will support the dynamics of realization of obligations in the areas of information society services, electronic communications and audiovisual policy, which include topics of importance for citizens and every modern society.
Mišković underlined the importance of the assessments from this year’s European Commission Report on Montenegro, and the prominence of following the recommendations and guidelines of the EC in the coming period, as a clear indication for progress in issues covered by this chapter, especially those related to media independence, strengthening capacity of the media regulator and improvement of administrative capacities for the implementation of the acquis, with special emphasis on further alignment of national legislation with the acquis.
In September this year, the Government of Montenegro adopted an innovated Decision on the working group for Chapter 10 – Information Society and Media, which has 25 members.
Regarding the new methodology, Chapter 10 is located within the Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth cluster.
