PM Đukanović: Montenegro committed to improving intellectual property rights system

Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Francisco Gurry.

“Montenegro is committed to improving the system for protection of intellectual property through strengthening the legal framework, as well as the institutional and administrative capacities“, PM Đukanović stressed, adding that the WIPO’s expert support is very important in implementing the four closing benchmarks from the negotiating chapter 7 – Intellectual property.

WIPO’s Director General Garcia commended Montenegro for the results achieved within the EU accession process and active engagement in the WIPO, highlighting the country’s comparative advantages as a small country.

The meeting underlined that Montenegro and the WIPO should actively cooperate in promoting intellectual property, boosting cooperation with the Montenegrin universities and strengthening expert and financial support for the implementation of intellectual property rights.
