State Secretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and European Integration ambassador Vladimir Radulović met today in Rome with the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova.
Ambassador Radulović commended the excellent relations between Montenegro and Italy, noting that the forthcoming visit of President Sergio Mattarella to Montenegro will be a strong impulse for further strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation. He thanked for the understanding and continued support Italy is showing to Montenegro in its European and Euro-Atlantic paths, noting at the same time the importance of the current developments for Montenegro’s NATO integration.
Ambassador Radulović commended the two countries’ fruitful cooperation in all areas and underlined the numerous possibilities for further strengthening the economic ties. In that regard, he noted that Montenegro finds very encouraging the fact that Italian companies express an unrelenting interest to invest in projects in Montenegro, especially in the area of energy and infrastructure and he was hopeful that this trend will result in an establishment of new economic partnerships in the near future.
Under-Secretary Della Vedova agreed on the importance of President Mattarella’s upcoming visit to Montenegro, noting that the visit marks another confirmation of Italy’s support for Montenegro’s and region’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He underlined that Montenegro has progressed the most in the region in terms of integration and he stressed the importance of the integration process for domestic reforms, strengthening the institutions, and the rule of law. Along those lines, he was hopeful that the Union will provide the opportunity, by assessing their results, for Montenegro and other countries in the region to join within a reasonable timeframe.
